SUSTAINABILITY
Thinking in cycles. Act efficiently. Shaping the future.
As a company in the iron casting industry, we at Heger see sustainability not as an add-on, but as an integral part of our entire value chain and are working to improve ourselves further:
- We want to become even more efficient.
- We are actively shaping the energy transition.
- We act sustainably and conserve resources – today and for future generations.

Infrastructure
We are one of ENERCON’s most important suppliers in the wind energy sector. Our production facilities manufacture the latest rotor hubs and load-bearing components. We also manufacture crankcases for power generators, including emergency power generators for Liebherr.
Our products secure energy supply, infrastructure and industrial performance for the future.
We reduce our energy consumption in the cycle
Our “circular foundry” simplifies production, makes us measurably more efficient and thus conserves resources sustainably:
In circular production, the components need to be repositioned significantly less. We achieve a high level of vertical integration by using transport carriages within the circular track. This reduces the use of forklifts to 15% and thus the emissions due to minimal displacement movements.
This structure enables us to significantly reduce energy consumption, internal logistics costs and emissions.

Our certifications
Our processes meet the highest international standards, including
- ISO 14001 – Environmental management
- ISO 50001 – Energy management
- DIN ISO 45001:2023 – Occupational health and safety management
- DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 – Quality management
- Further customer-specific certifications (e.g. mining / marine)
These standards ensure structured, audited and continuously optimized sustainability processes.
Responsibility in the supply chain
For us, sustainability does not end at the factory gate, which is why we carry out regular supplier audits and expect compliance with agreed sustainability criteria and customer-specific certification requirements.
Digitalization as a driver of sustainability
The degree of digitization has already been partially implemented – with clear strategic development. Every component is digitized and can be viewed directly at the workstation using the “hg.visutec” software tool developed especially for us. This leads to greater production reliability and therefore makes a decisive contribution to more sustainable production.
We simulate new castings as early as the development phase. This allows us to reduce the weight and the amount of input materials such as risers and ceramic inserts. We also check whether additional sand cores can be dispensed with and loose parts used instead.
One planned project is the optimization of the cooling pump control at the melting furnace – with the aim of achieving additional energy savings.
